Assessment
The assessment will be based off of 5 different essay questions, where the students will choose two to write about. Students must answer the whole question and give at least 2 main ideas for the each question and give three supporting details for each main point. The essay must include an introduction with a good hook, and a conclusion which summarizes the main points. The students will have 30 minutes to complete the assessment and they will be given scratch paper to organize their thoughts. The questions are as follows.
1. What is the mood of the country during this time? Explain how Americans are feeling in the mid to late 70s after Vietnam and Watergate. Explain how the country feels towards the federal government during this time.
2. Name one foreign issue that Ford/Carter had during their presidencies and what effect did it have on the nation Explain how the president handled the situation and would the situation be handled different today, why or why not?
3. Name one domestic issue that Ford/Carter had during their presidencies and what effect did it have on the nation? How did the president handle the situation and would the situation be handled different today, why or why not?
4. Explain President Ford's "WIN" plan. What was it trying to accomplish and why did it fail? Would something like this work in todays world? Why or why not?
5. Explain the historical significance of the "Miracle on Ice." Did this help or hurt morale in the country at the time, and explain why? Did it help or hurt relations with the Soviets, or did it have any impact at all? Why or why not?
